healthy snacks.jpgYou’ve probably heard that it’s better to eat 6 small meals a day than 3 big ones. But really, who has time to make that many little meals? Eating healthy snacks in between lighter meals is much easier- especially if you’re always on the go.

Fuel your body with these healthy (guilt-free) snacks you can enjoy...even in LA traffic:

6 Healthy Snacks You Can Bring With You

healthy snacks string cheese (1).jpg1. String Cheese and Frozen Grapes

Complete with protein and nutrients, cheese and grapes make for a healthy snack. If you opt for a low-fat cheese stick and frozen grapes, the snack is easy to bring with you wherever you go.

healthy snacks dried fruit (1).jpg2. Dried or Fresh Fruit

Fruit is good for you, and a lot of it is naturally “packaged.” Bananas, for example, require no wrapping or prep work.

If you’re more of a pre-packaged person, go for dried fruit. You can divvy it into sandwich baggies for perfectly-portioned, travel-ready snacking. We recommend dried plums (AKA prunes) because they’re filling, fiber-rich, and can even help your body regulate your appetite.

Somewhere between a snack and a meal, a protein shake is good for you and also filling. Make it at home using healthy protein supplements. Whether you want to lose weight or focus on muscle building, you can choose supplements to add to shakes to help you reach your health goals. Bring your shake with you in the car, to the gym, or while you run errands.

There’s only one rule to counting trail mix as a healthy snack: you can’t just buy the cheapest bag on the shelves!  A lot of cheap trail mixes are loaded with sugar and fat. It’s better to make your own or spend a little time picking out a variety that is actually healthy.

Look for mixes that include these better ingredients:

  • Walnuts
  • Pistachios
  • Cashews
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Soy nuts
  • Almonds
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Sunflower Seeds

5. Turkey Jerky

If you thought jerky was too-salty to be healthy, you’re probably only familiar with beef jerky. Jerky made out of turkey is lower in sodium and really high in lean protein. Since lean protein is needed to lose fat while getting fit, turkey jerky is actually a smart snack. It’s not messy or heat-sensitive, so it’s perfect for travel snacking or long, busy days.

healthy snacks hummus (1).jpg6. Veggies and Hummus

As long as your car has cup holders, you can eat this on the 101. Scoop your favorite healthy hummus into a short mason jar. Poke a few veggies into it toothpick-style (carrots are recommended!) Chow down on this nutrient-rich snack while busy.

Eating Healthy While Busy is Possible

When you’re trying to consume a healthy diet but you’re also really busy, it can feel like you have to choose one or the other. But you can live on the go and still take care of yourself if you have the know-how.

There are healthy fast food options. You can learn to make healthy, simple meals fast. Using this list, you can even stay on track as you snack. When you make healthy, easy choices like these, weight loss and other health goals are within your reach.
