Meet Rayna Hurdle of Gold's Gym West Covina
Rayna began to neglect herself while taking care of family members who fell sick to chronic illnesses like diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and Parkinson's. As her health began to decline, a wake up call from her husband inspired Rayna to get back into shape. Her second time on a weight loss journey, Rayna felt more inspired and more motivated than she has ever been. She kept her eye on the prize and became a National First Place Winner of the Gold's Gym Challenge.
Here's Rayna's mind-blowing transformation:Q:Why did you decide to take the Challenge and make a change?
Rayna: Primarily because of my family health history. My family has a history of diabetes, Parkinson's disease and high cholesterol. I have experienced, firsthand, the effects of not taking care of yourself. I also did not want to be a burden to my kids and other family members if I got sick later in life.
Q: What was it like participating in the Challenge?
Rayna: It was a great experience, and for some odd reason I knew that I was going to win. This made the journey much more exciting. I was training to win, but in actuality I was fighting for my life!
Q: Who inspired you to participate?
Rayna: My husband actually tricked me into joining. He joined and sort of casually informed me. Being that I am competitive by nature, I knew I had to join because I was not going to let him beat me. But this was all by design on his part as he knew I needed motivation to get back on track. A few years ago I lost 50 pounds in 6 weeks but I was beginning to slip back into old habits. Thankfully during the Challenge, I learned more about my body and how to maintain my fitness regime. I am grateful to him for motivating me to participate.
Q: How was your experience with your personal trainer? How did he keep you motivated?
Rayna: My experience with my trainer was unbelievable. He is phenomenal and cares about his clients. He inspired me because of his own passion for fitness. Through his training and motivation, I remained on the course and plan he designed for me. I am now very passionate about fitness. I have always trusted and believed in him. He is an excellent trainer and I literally trusted him with my life.
Q. What are your favorite fitness classes?
Rayna: Body Pump is my favorite fitness class! The instructor Mariam is incredible.
Q. Who do you credit mostly for keeping you accountable and motivated during the Challenge?
Rayna: I have to credit God for giving me the strength, motivation and the will to do this. Next, my husband for loving and caring for me enough to get me to join the Challenge. Lastly, my trainer for being the very best at what he does and for investing/caring for my fitness needs. I know he knows exactly what I need. I literally trust this guy with my life.
Q: How are you planning to maintain your results?
Rayna: I am planning to continue eating clean and working out. I want to give back, therefore it is crucial to stay fit so that others can see that it is possible to get good results and maintain. I also want to do something in this industry when I retire.
Q: What has changed in your life since taking the Gold’s Challenge?
Rayna: I now truly love myself. I really believe that physical training and committing to oneself is one of the most therapeutic and empowering journeys that anyone can go on. I have learned what I am made of. I have learned to be comfortable in my own skin and I am very proud of myself. I am enjoying my life likes it golden! I feel incredible, full of life, full of energy and I am stronger physically and mentality. I even stand taller! More importantly, I want to pay it forward in some way. Whether it's personal training, motivational speaking or simply meal prepping, I will give back! In fact I am already encouraging others to get in the best shape ever. Gold's Gym SoCal has given me the platform and courage to do so.
