The health and safety, including the mental health, of our members is and always will be the top priority for Gold's Gym SoCal. During this challenging time our mission is to provide members with tools to stay fit physically and mentally.

During this period of social distancing and quarantining, stress is par for the course for all of us. Don’t just say “it is what is,” though. Stress can weaken your immune system and negatively affect your health.

Use these mental wellness tips to stay sane and find calm during this unique time in history:

Practice Mindful Exercise

Certain types of exercise, like yoga, are super beneficial for mental and emotional wellness. Through yoga, you can find a sense of peace while also taking care of your physical body.

Join our Instagram Live Pilates Mat and Mindful Flow virtual classes to get centered! We’re live at 3pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, plus 10am on Saturdays. Stay up to date on the schedule here

Your mind, heart, and body will thank you for practicing mindful exercises like yoga moves. 

Meditate for Mental Wellness

With everything going on in the world, it can be hard to feel calm and clear-headed. Meditation helps you quiet your mind so you can de-stress and think straight. Some of the other benefits of meditation for reducing stress and improving mental wellness include:

  • Meditation increases positive feelings
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Enhances emotional health
  • Can improve sleep

Enjoy Play and Creativity

When are you going to have this much time on your hands again, with nowhere else you need to go? Call this your “quaran-cation,” and do things you enjoy or have wanted to try. Give yourself daily play time!

Learn something new, experiment with recipes, master a game, or get silly and build a blanket fort. Research shows that play has benefits for adults, like reducing stress and lifting moods. Plus, playing with your kids or family members can boost your relationships.  

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

The effects of stress on your body can be awful, especially when there are viruses going around and you need to stay healthy. Sleep is vital for your body to be able to manage stress.

During your quaran-cation, protect your mental health with a solid 8 hours each night and naps when able. Be strategic. Turn off screens an hour before bed time, avoid stimulating foods at night, and get your family on board. For example, one Dad posted on social media that he challenges his kids to draw him sleeping so he can get a nap!
