You’ve got the goods. A sculpted body, bursting muscles, and all the attitude that makes you, you. Showing off just comes naturally- but natural photos don’t always do your hot body justice. Use these 6 Instagram tips to make sure you look your best.
6 Instagram Tips for Better Photos
Tip #1: It’s Cool to Be Square
Even though Instagram allows you to share rectangular photos, they don’t look as good. Instagram is designed for square photos, so that’s what looks best on there. The symmetry of the shape also makes the subject (AKA you!) stand out more. It also helps with the aesthetics of your profile when viewing the “grid” of your last twelve photos Nothing ends up getting cut off in all the wrong places!
Tip #2: Pay Attention to Location
You may want your sexy body to be the main focus of your photos, but that doesn’t mean location and background don’t matter. The location of your shot can be distracting for better or for worse. It’s best to choose from:
- A clean background
- A blurred background
- A natural outdoorsy environment
Small and excessive details behind you can minimize how much you stand out.
Tip #3: Mix Up Selfies, Helpies, and Effects
Even if you use a selfie stick, there are some types of images you just can’t simulate. This is just one of many reasons you need real life friends. Your Instagram feed will be much more attractive if you have a mix of selfies and photos someone else helped take. In the same vein, opt for effects like Boomerang occasionally to keep your story fresh.
Tip #4: Filter for Flattery
Research has actually shown that natural, unfiltered Instagram photos aren’t as engaging. Filters make photos more appealing. Here are the best filters for showing off that ripped body you’ve work so hard on:
- Clarendon
This (super popular!) filter makes any photo brighter. It highlights details and really makes outdoor photos striking.
- Lo-Fi
Best for closer-up images of muscles, this filter adds definition. The warmth of it is also shows off tanned skin well.
- Inkwell
When you’re fresh out of a workout or your background is too detailed, go for this black and white filter. It draws attention to your form while minimizing distractions. Plus, it covers up redness, sweat, and other fitness realities you might want to keep to yourself.
Tip #5: Focus on Your Form
Whether you’re taking posed or action shots, don’t just stick to forward-facing headshots or full-body images. Get up close. Make a specific muscle group you’ve sculpted, like your taut abs, the focus of your photo. Try different angles to see what makes your body look the most defined.
Tip #6: Play With Your Lighting
“Point and shoot” is a thing of the past for real Instagram artists. Use the grid feature on your phone and always move around a little to see the way the lighting changes. Lighting makes or breaks the allure of an image.
If you’re not sure where to start, try standing in natural lighting and take a photo facing the light and away from the lighting. You’ll begin to see the magic of it.
