Setting out on your fitness journey can be hard, and keeping yourself motivated can be even harder if you don’t have anyone to keep you accountable. If your partner is also thinking about changing their routine to live a healthier lifestyle, finding some workouts you can do together can be a great way for both of you to achieve your goals! With the right couples’ workouts, you can bond with your loved one and get in shape at the same time.

If you’re trying to lose weight, review the five best cardio exercises for weight loss that you can do with your partner.

Golds Gym Couple2#1: Interval Training

Interval training is a great way for couples to have a joint workout session together that is tailored to their specific goals and abilities. Usually, interval training consists of a set of exercises that are completed after you finish a specific number of reps or reach a time limit. For instance, HIIT cardio and circuit sessions are both types of interval training.

If you’re interested in circuit training, you and your partner should pick a set of 5-6 exercises and give yourselves around 30-60 seconds to complete as many reps as possible. Be sure to rest for about 15-30 seconds in between each exercise and try to complete around 3-5 rounds together. Interval training burns calories while you’re performing the movements while also boosting your metabolism for hours after the workout!

Here are some examples of good circuit exercises:

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Pushups
  • Burpees
  • Wind Sprints
  • Jump Rope

Golds Gym Couple3-1#2: Running or Jogging

Going on a run with your partner is a classic way to lose weight as a couple. Alongside losing weight, running or jogging gives you a chance to have fun exploring your neighborhood with your partner.

In order to have an effective running session, you should plan your route beforehand, mapping out landmarks or objects around where you live that are far enough away that you’ll be working up a sweat once you reach them. If you want to burn extra fat, you can alternate between jogging and sprinting on your way there, and once you reach your destination, perform some bodyweight exercises like lunges or pushups.

We’ve all seen those fit couples going for an evening jog around where we live, so why not join them? Jogging can be a great way to wind down after a hard day at work with someone you love while shedding some pounds.

Golds Gym Couple4#3: Cycling

Cycling is a great workout you can do with your partner that will get you outside and have you burning lots of calories while you’re at it. Like jogging, it’s a good idea to plan your route before you go so that you can focus on working hard instead of what direction you should be heading next.

If you feel more comfortable in a gym setting, you can always hit the stationary bikes together as well and make a competition out of it. You might also want to check out a spin class with your partner, as the structured workout and encouragement from an instructor can help inspire you to receive the most benefits. Spin classes can also be a great way to make new friends who are also trying to be fit!

Golds Gym Couple5#4: Partner Dance Classes

Dancing together is a great way to burn calories, boost your mood, and reduce stress, all at the same time. Typically, couples enjoy hip-hop or salsa dance classes, as the music in these classes tends to get everyone really moving. However, you can find a variety of styles of music offered at group fitness classes to dance to.

If you’re not ready to attend a class, you may want to try a dance workout at home to see if you both like it. To do a DIY dance class with your partner, make a playlist of upbeat songs with varying tempos that lasts around 30 minutes. Try to keep moving for the entirety of the playlist and incorporate high-energy moves like lunges or high knees while you’re dancing to keep your heart rate up.

Golds Gym Couple6#5: Somatic Workouts

Somatic workouts are a great way for you and your partner to get in shape and work on mindfulness at the same time. Somatic workouts are slow, intentional, movement-based exercises that emphasize the mind-body connection. This emphasis means that somatic exercises for weight loss can help couples relax, recover, and get fit at the same time.

Somatic workouts are an awesome way for you and your partner to lose weight and connect on a deeper level. Yoga and pilates are two examples of workouts that you can do together and are offered at almost every gym as classes for all skill levels. Mindful walking is also a great somatic exercise that will get you out of the house and give you the chance to talk with your partner while also burning calories!
