What do you picture when you think of the gym? If you're like most people, you might imagine muscular guys and toned women ultra-focused on exercises you can't even fathom doing! This impression of the gym can be intimidating and make you feel like you have to be in shape before joining the gym.
But do you actually need to jump start your fitness before hitting the gym?
In reality, there are people of all different backgrounds and fitness levels at the gym. Men and women tend to join the gym at about the same rate every year, and about 14% of Americans have a gym membership. Everyone has to start somewhere!
At Gold's Gym SoCal, you can count on our staff to be welcoming and helpful no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are at Fitness. Our members are also known for being friendly and inviting.
When you're new to anything, it helps to have a heads up about what to expect. Use these tips to choose a gym and set yourself up for success:
Tackling a transformation can be hard work. If going to the gym is already outside your comfort zone, stick with what's comfortable when you start working out. Get used to showing up and using the treadmill. Attend a basic class. You can also use the free guide featured at the end of this post to get "gym-ready" and practice exercising ahead of time.
Feeling lost at the gym when you're new is understandable! Our clubs have so much to offer. Ask a staff member for a tour and take the time to get to know what types of equipment, facilities, and programs we have. You may discover something fun you want to try, like swimming for fitness, but it also just helps to see what's available.
To help you jump start your fitness journey comfortably and successfully, we created this FREE Guide to Getting Gym-Ready. Inside, you'll find info about gym layout, lingo, and even exercises you can do to prepare for gym workouts. We hope to see you soon!
